Travel Information

• BH Tourism - The Heart-Shaped Land

  This site was relaunched in February 2006 and is a great improvement over the previous version. A wide variety of destinations is covered, with accommodation listings and transport timetables for each one. There is now some coveraged of Republika Srpska as well as the better-known attractions in the Federation. I still wish they would cut down the graphics content, though.

• Tourism Association of Sarajevo Canton

  An excellent site that that includes accommodation listings and transport timetables as well as a guide to the sights of the city.

• Sonar: Explore Sarajevo

  Another good Sarajevo portal, with a calendar of events as well as tourist information, maps, and transport details.

• Sarajevo In Your Pocket

  I relied on the original In Your Pocket guide to Sarajevo when I first visited the city way back in 2002 - at that time it was virtually the only useful information available. After an absence of several years, Sarajevo has made a welcome return to the IYP website, along with a short guide to Banja Luka.

• Visit Mostar

  Tourist information about Mostar and the surrounding area.

• Tourist Organisation of Višegrad

  One of the few good tourist information websites about the eastern part of Bosnia.

• Green Visions

  Pioneering eco-tourism group, offering one-day and multi-day trips in the Bosnian mountains and to places of interest around the country. Their trips are very good but in my experience not always easy to arrange for an individual traveller.

Transport and Practicalities

• ŽFBiH - Railways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina
  ŽRS- Railways of Republika Srpska

  The railways within each of Bosnia's two entities are managed by separate organisations, hence there are two different web sites. The Federation site is largely "under construction" as at July 2009, but it does have station timetables and price lists for both domestic and international journeys. The Republika Srpska site is more complete (although not in English).

• CentroTrans - Eurolines - Centrolines

  One of the larger Bosnian bus operators, particularly for longer routes. As of August 2007 the site is in Bosnian only, although that hasn't stopped them from adding a "swap to English" link that points nowhere. The site is apparently intended to show off somebody's Flash programming skills rather than to provide useful information, but if you are patient it is actually possible to find timetables buried in there somewhere. There are many other domestic bus companies so don't worry if the route you want is not listed here.

• A.D. Centrotrans

  The main bus company within the Republika Srpska, also with connections to Serbia. The site is in Serbian only, but thankfully there are no Flash graphics so timetables can be easily found under "Redovi Vožnje". Note that "I. Sarajevo" refers to the Istočno Sarajevo (East Sarajevo or Srpsko Sarajevo) bus station, also known as Lukavica.

• Globtour Međugorje
  AutoPrevoz-Bus Mostar
  Transturist Tuzla

  More regional bus timetables, in the local language only. Globtour operates some very useful routes, with destinations including Split, Dubrovnik, and even the Montenegrin coast.

  Timetables for Sarajevo's network of trams, trolleys, buses and minibuses.

Background

• The Bosnian Institute

  The Institute is a London-based organisation that aims to inform the world about Bosnia. Its website includes in-depth articles on Bosnia and pointers to other resources (books and websites).

• Sarajevo Film Festival

  Sarajevo hosts a major film festival every August - find out more here.

• City of Mostar

  This municipal site doesn't have an English version, and isn't aimed at tourists anyway. There are versions in the Croatian (hrvatski) and Bosnian (bosanski) languages - you can amuse yourself by trying to spot the differences between them.
