Republic of Macedonia :: Books
Travel Guides
Short descriptions of Macedonia appear in three of Lonely Planet's regional guides listed in the Overview section: Europe on a Shoestring, Eastern Europe, and Western Balkans. The last of these includes the most detail.

Macedonia - The Bradt Guide (2nd edition published March 2007) - Thammy EvansMany travellers spend only a few days in Macedonia, visiting Ohrid while in transit between other countries; for this purpose any of the above guides should be sufficient. If you would like to explore the country in more depth (highly recommended), you will probably be better off with the Bradt Guide. The 2nd edition includes more details about public transport and a special chapter about hiking with twelve trail descriptions. |

Background Reading
So far I haven't read any books specifically about Macedonia, but several of the works on Balkan history listed in the Overview may be of interest. Many books dealing with the former Yugoslavia say little about Macedonia. It receives fairly substantial treatment, coloured by the author's usual affinity for the Serbs, in Black Lamb and Grey Falcon..
