Montenegro :: Frequently Asked Questions

Some general questions about the Balkans are answered in the Overview section.

  1. How can I get from Montenegro to Albania by public transport?

    Quite a few Thorntree contributors have reported on this journey in recent years, and in all cases it seems to have been reasonably straightforward. Most people go to Ulcinj (Ulqini in Albanian), on the Montenegrin coast, rather than trying to reach Albania directly from Podgorica. From Ulcinj it appears that a few scheduled minibuses per day go to Shkodra in Albania (1.5 hours). Alternatively it is possible to make the trip by taxi, or to get a taxi at the border and another on the other side. If you don't want to stop in Shkodra there is frequent transport to Tirana.

    Although some maps show a railway between Podgorica and Shkodra, no passenger trains have run on this line for many years.

  2. How can I get from Montenegro to Croatia by public transport?

    This is answered (for the reverse direction) in the Croatia FAQ.
